Proverbs 30:5,6

“Every word of God proves true;
 he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
 Do not add to his words,
 lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.”

God’s word is the only living, breathing, active book you can read.

Unlike ANY OTHER.

His words are true and prove true.

Thus, He is a shield to those who refuge in Him.

God shields.

We can hide ourselves under God’s protective care.

His shield is sufficient. His shield is perfect.

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” (Isaiah…not Ray Lewis)

I love that promise.

The promise to shield, protect and guard those who…

take refuge in Him.

As refugees in this land called Earth, our eternal shaped hearts will be constantly battered, beaten and bruised.

Things are not as they should be.

Things are not as they one day will be.

Until then, we are to refuge in Him, He is our Shield.

That is where we are to take our beaten up hearts, each time, until they are sledgehammered again.

And this second proverb has some thing to say about God’s Word as well,

DO NOT ADD TO IT.

That’s classic legalism.

Judging others through an extra Biblical lens that we have created or inherited because we feel like it “should” be in there.

That was one of Eve’s original sins.

Saying God commanded something that God never commanded.

Resist that urge.

God’s Bible does not need our editing, suggested deletions, or suggested additions.

It’s perfect and sufficient.

And safe.

Refuged in God and HIs Word, the safest possible place.
