truth to slay the idiot within
Proverbs 4:18
“But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter until full day.”
Here’s a vision for aging that’s counter-cultural.
Shoutout to all us gray heads.
To walk through seasons of life, in the imputed righteousness of Jesus, each lap can provide those you love and the world, a brighter and brighter you.
Your path can shine brighter and brighter as a blessing to others and in honor and to the glory of your heavenly Father.
It is an alternative to “slowing down”.
Like the great Secretariat in his infamous 1973 Kentucky Derby, who ran each quarter mile faster than the one he just ran…ponder that for a second.
Secretariat’s quarter mile times in that Derby win:
First quarter mile 25 1⁄5
Second quarter mile 24
Third quarter mile 23 4⁄5
Fourth quarter mile 232⁄5
Final quarter mile, the homestretch, 23…and still accelerating !
I love how sports writers of old would use words to capture moments for an audience who did not have Sportscenter, Tik Tok or X:
“And then before you could make out what it was, here Secretariat came. And then Secretariat had passed him. No one had ever seen anything run like that horse — a lot of the old guys said the same thing. “It was like he was some other animal out there.””
By God’s grace, we too, can be “some other animal out there”.
Embrace each season as a race and an opportunity for God’s righteousness to shine brighter and brighter in and through you!
Shout out to one of my hero’s, Mel Sumrall, Denton, Texas who turned 100 this week.
Grindforth!
