command Five l honor

exodus 20

0-4 in law keeping, we drag ourselves to number five

hopefully, all the morsels of self-righteousness within us are being obliterated

the law is not meant to be a to do list

it is a wall we crash into

it is heavy, brutal, and exacting

No “that a boys” for effort, no cheering of improvement, no kudos for 9 out of 10, no sippy cups for baby steps

if the rule’s were simply, starting now, do not violate these 10 commands moving forward, we would be toast before lunch

but it’s heavier and more grueling than even that

the Law demands past, present, and future 100% obedience and investigates both outside behavior and inside motives and thoughts

I predict 0-5 for us all, then 0-10

c5 Honor your Father & Mother

honoring is putting aside our own will, needs, thoughts and wants and putting the will, needs, thoughts and wants of another above our own

I was blessed with great parents and it is not hard for me to honor them

they were/are honorable people & parents

this command, like the others goes further, much further

there are no conditions

it does not read, Honor if honorable

it is Honor others, regardless

any of my sin, rebellion, rule breaking, talking back, snide remarks, sneaking out, sneaking around, half truths, bold face lies, lack of gratitude as a child & teenager toward my parents has me pinned down and shatters this command

remember, Law requires:

100% perfection,

past, present and future,

outward acts

inward attitude

things I have done, I should not have done

things I should have done, I did not do

Wall. Hit. Hard.

when disrespected, does honoring others pop out of you?

when not credited?

when punched in the jaw, do you turn the other check?

Thankfully, Jesus obeyed this for us

perfectly obeying his Heavenly Father

perfectly obeying his Earthly Father & Mother

“My will is to do the will of my Father”

every teenager in America Jesus

Grindforth!…Thankful for Jesus’ law keeping

The Law Maker

Became the Law Keeper

Absorbed All of God’s Law-Breaking Wrath deserved by us

To make us Law Breakers, me and you

Not just forgiven, but forever treated as if we never have sinned

Though I remember my sins, and others remember my sin, GOD DOES NOT! Because of Jesus.

The Gospel is a 3rd Way

It requires us to repent of our wretched deeds

Our unrighteousness

AND

It requires us to repent of our “damnable good works”

Our self-righteousness

and place our trust in the finished perfect work of Jesus

Trusting in Jesus’s Righteousness
