exodus 17

Exodus 17

God has Israel a surprising 1-0 after their defeat of the Egyptians

Next on the schedule, a road trip to fight Amalek @ Rephidim

Amalek was defending its turf. Israel was scrappy, but had zero war experience and whined worse than Lebron and Luka

Joshua, you pick an army of of men and go fight

Moses, Aaron, Hur, you all hike up to the top of the mountain and watch

and Moses, bring with you The Staff of God, the one that you used to strike the Nile

Each obeyed and the battle commenced

“Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed

whenever Moses lowered his hand, Amalak prevailed”

The battle was not the battle

The war was on the mountain top, not in the valley

“Moses’ hands grew weary (there’s a humanized leader for ya), so Joshua and Hur took a stone for Moses to sit, Moses denied that he was weary and refused to sit to prove how tough and mighty he was, and he sat on it.

Then Aaron and Hur got on each side of Moses, and held up his hands and his hands were steady until the going down of the Sun.”

The Sun lowered before this strand of three cords did

If everyone involved could fully see what God sees:

The army would praise the three on the mountain with immense gratitude for interceding

Moses would be so grateful for Aaron and Hur providing rest for him and assistance

Shout outs to all the Aaron’s and Hur’s for “Leading with…”

Shout out to Moses for admitting his neediness, sitting down and accepting help

Shout out to God for “overwhelming the Amalekites”

Moses built an altar, stones of remembrance, naming it The Lord is My Banner

acknowledging God as the source of victory and protection for His people, and

a reminder of God’s presence and God’s power

Grindforth!...knowing where the real battle is fought!
